Gold fever

We recognize Egyptian relics dating back 3,000 years A.-C. even if the Egyptians used barley as currency. It is King Cresus (550 A.-C.) who was the first to use gold as currency in the Kingdom of Lydia (Turkey).

Gold is the precious metal that is best known by mankind.

It has fascinating characteristics:

Malleable, one ounce can be hammered into a sheet of 5 millionth of an inch on a surface of 100 square feet or be weaved into a thread 50 miles long.

Not surprising that for all time this noble metal has been used to make the most exquisite jewellery for kings and queens.

Rarity of gold
More incredible still is the rarity of gold. All the gold accumulated since the dawn of time only equals 120,000 metric tons. (Imagine a bloc of only 20 square meters) The value of this precious treasure would be of 1,400,000,000,000,000$ US!
